What's up everybody, it's Simon from LakeHub. This is a campground review of
0:04
Hickory Creek Park on beautiful Lake Louisville in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Hickory Creek Park is run by the Army Corps of Engineers and it is a
0:14
great campground. I've camped here no less than five times, maybe more. I've
0:19
stayed in every section that you can stay in. There's a hundred and twenty
0:23
approved sites. There are ten primitive sites and this place is really spread
0:29
out. There's a ton of area. It's all along a point, so it's points and
0:33
coves and points and coves all the way around. There are three huge bathhouses
0:38
They look pretty new. I don't know how new they are. They've been here
0:42
for a few years, but they're really well done as far as public
0:47
bathrooms go in a public run campground. They're pretty great. They're pretty great. I mean, almost all the doors latch, you know what I mean? If
0:59
you camped at a public campground, you know what I'm talking about. But they're
1:03
clean, nice, heated and stuff, so really great. One of the greatest
1:08
features about being on the lake is having shoreline access and there is a
1:14
ton here. I would say probably about a quarter of the spots, you know, upwards of
1:20
two dozen are really great spots for boaters. In fact, you can see the activity
1:26
behind me. There's a boat ramp and a big old parking lot right here with trailer
1:30
parking just for campers. There's no public access here. This boat ramp is a really nice boat ramp with a courtesy dock and it is only for campers
1:42
So I think that's pretty awesome. There are, like I said, there's at least a
1:47
dozen spots that are really great for boaters. You put your boat in once and then you can beach it right in front of your campsite all weekend long. The only
1:55
thing that really gets me about staying here is that we are right in the flight
2:00
path of DFW Airport. And so during the weekend it's not so bad. During the week
2:07
it's about every 60 seconds or so there's a plane going overhead and it's
2:14
loud. I mean they're coming in low and it's loud. It's non-stop during the
2:20
week. So this is a great weekend or campground. There's a lot of people who
2:25
come out here for the weekend just to get out. I mean, might live 10
2:30
15, 20 minutes away. Just get out of the house, get outside for the weekend. So
2:35
it's a great campground for that. But just be warned that there's a lot, a lot
2:41
of air traffic going on during the week. I would say that's the biggest
2:46
downfall of this park. Otherwise this might be the perfect park. I mean you can
2:50
hear a little bit of freeway noise if you're on the east side. There's one point that kind of reaches out towards the freeway and at night you know you
2:57
can hear it kind of coming across the water. So it's not just crickets and woods, you know. But that's actually not too bad. It's not too bad. It's not that
3:06
annoying. We've camped on that side before and it's fine. You can see it, you
3:12
can hear it. It's not that bad. But the air traffic, the air traffic, especially
3:17
on the west side of the campground, it seems to be worse over there. And it is a
3:23
lot. Other than that, this campground is awesome. There's tons of bike paths too
3:29
There's a, there's like a concrete trail that kind of splits the park. And so
3:34
there, and then there's, there's dirt trails and stuff. So lots of hiking, lots
3:38
of biking, lots of open fields for the kids, lots of shaded areas and stuff
3:45
shaded campsites, lots of trees and stuff like that. This is like kind of typical
3:49
North Texas prairieland, cross timbers type of terrain. And so a lot of wildlife
3:55
a lot of deer. Every time we've camped here, we've seen deer. So a lot of fun, a
3:59
lot of fishing. So there you go. There's your review of Hickory Creek Park. Get
4:06
outside, get out on the lake and have some fun
