What's up, everybody? It's Simon from Lake Hub. I'm out here on the creek because it's springtime and it's time for the sand bass run
0:06
That's when the white bass spawn. They move up out of the lakes into the shallows of the creeks
0:11
They find some deep hole, hang out. They do their thing and make more so that we can catch more next year
0:18
But while they're running, they are wild and crazy. They're frenzied. They're hungry and it is fun, fun bank fishing
0:27
I love it. And I'm here to share with you today a couple of my favorite lures for the sand bass run
0:34
First and foremost is a roadrunner. This is a jig head, kind of a football jig head with a little spoon, a little flashy spoon on it
0:47
And I like to swim a white body on it. This is about the right size
0:51
This is about maybe two and a half inches total. So like a two inch swim bait and
0:58
these are awesome. This is my go-to. This is what I swim almost exclusively
1:05
I've got a few other lures to show you too that I never leave home without during the spring spawn
1:11
But this is number one. A red, orange, pink head and a white body are the ticket
1:19
I've been testing different lures, styles, colors and everything like that for about
1:25
over 10 years. Over 10 years for sure. And this is what works all the time with a little bit of silver flash
1:35
And speaking of silver flash, number two that I never leave home without and this is the other lure on my
1:44
want-to-catch-any-fish-in-the-world kind of lure. It's a cast master. I love me a cast master
1:50
If you've seen my videos before you know that you can catch trout. I've caught catfish, largemouth
1:57
crappie, white bass, striper, you name it. If you want to catch it, you can catch it on a cast master
2:05
So this one is just plain silver and that's all you really need. The story behind cast master
2:12
I really love this, is it was a failed earring design. So it's kind of like this funky
2:18
you know 60s or 70s kind of earring and put that shape right there gives it the perfect wobble
2:28
Irresistible. So you can you can swim these kind of slow. You can swim fast. You can let them drop. What I like to do is I like to let them drop and then fast
2:39
fast, fast, fast, fast, pause. And that is a really good tip
2:44
for spring spawn. Now these are more expensive than Roadrunners. Roadrunners you buy them by the dozen and
2:52
you know swim bait bodies, curly tail grubs you buy them by the pack
2:57
These are like three or four bucks a piece. So you can you can buy you know a set
3:03
different colors, different sizes of the same color and get a price break. But in a creek like this
3:12
there's always stuff to get hung up on. Under the water there are branches, there's submerged
3:19
branches and trees and dead logs and stuff like that. There are roots
3:24
Sometimes there's old trot lines that people haven't cleaned out and so you're always losing lures. So you hate to lose a $4 lure
3:32
So what I do is a I'll kind of scout the area with a Roadrunner. If I don't lose anything then I know that it's good and then I'll start
3:40
switching up to my more expensive lures. Another one that's great to bring along is a
3:47
rooster tail spinner. These are great. Another really versatile lure that you can catch a lot of different types of fish on
3:54
Usually you buy these in packs and they come with a lot of different colors
3:58
So you pick one size and you get a whole you know five or six different colors and that's really nice because sometimes
4:05
they're picky on color. If they're not hitting on white then start switching the colors. Some days it's an orange day
4:12
some days it's a chartreuse day, and some days it's a pink day
4:18
This is a lure and so we don't call it pink we call it bubble gum. But you understand what I'm saying
4:25
Here's another one I throw in. These work too. This is a beetle spin. so
4:33
this is you tie on right here and it's a little more complicated
4:40
you know of a spinner basically, but it's got the same style spoon as a roadrunner. It just goes ahead of it
4:45
It goes above it instead of right below the head and you can affix any
4:51
any j-head in any body you want. So I'll pack you know variety of colors and curly tail grubs. Those are inexpensive
5:00
They have that wild tail action that gets a lot of disturbance through the water and
5:07
those can be really useful to you know rig up a bunch of these beforehand and
5:13
then just swap colors like crazy. And this this kind of setup you can use a snap swivel and then switch between lures
5:19
You can do five casts, unsnap, put a new one on, snap again. That way you're not tying knots all day
5:26
Then to round it out I'll have a bunch of just random
5:31
random bodies, little swim baits, little grubs, different color jig heads. You just never know if you're out there fishing all day and you're not getting a bite you're going to these
5:41
Otherwise stick to your roadrunner, stick to your castmaster, and if you found the fish
5:48
they will almost always hit one or two or both of those lures. Get out there and hit the creeks y'all. I'm Simon from Light Cove
