What's up everybody, it's Simon from LakeHub. Hey, today we're enjoying Richland Chambers Lake
0:04
just southeast of Dallas. Richland Chambers Lake, Richland Chambers Reservoir, whatever you want to
0:11
call it, it's a big place and there's a lot to do. The lake is over 40,000 acres of water and there
0:19
are over 300 miles of shoreline. It's a big lake with lots of room to spread your wings
0:28
It has a max depth of 57 feet and it's just about that far in miles away from the city of Dallas
0:37
So where does Richland Chambers Reservoir get its hyphenated name? There are two main
0:45
branches of the lake, two main areas, one fed by Richland Creek, one fed by Chambers Creek
0:55
Richland Chambers, easy enough. So this lake was built in the 1980s for the Tarrant Regional
1:04
Water District which feeds Fort Worth, which is interesting because we're much closer to
1:11
Dallas. In fact, we're on the other side of Dallas from Fort Worth. This area has an interesting
1:17
history dating back to the early 1830s. There was a fort that a bunch of settlers had built
1:24
and ended up in a fight with some Comanches and that's where the story of Peter Nakona and Cynthia
1:33
Parker took place. I don't know if you're familiar with that story. That's kind of crazy and yes
1:38
Nakona of Nakona, Texas of Nakona boots, Nakona beer, etc, etc, etc. And Cynthia Parker
1:50
of Parker County, Texas. They had a son, they had a couple sons actually, but one of them
1:57
the most, the one who made the biggest name for himself, I'll put it that way, Kwana Parker as in Kwana, Texas. So there's a lot of namesakes in and around North Texas
2:11
and the Texas Panhandle that were rooted right here in this area in and around the lake
2:18
This is a fantastic lake for boating. If you like boating, then you really have to check this out
2:25
because there is so much room to play. There's tons of access. It's a safe lake for boating
2:31
It has a relaxed family, fun atmosphere. This is not a party lake, you know, so this is a great
2:39
time on the lake, on the water for boating if you're a boater. There are also four marinas
2:46
and so, you know, there's enough. I'm standing in front of one right now. There's enough to go
2:52
around. Gas docks, you know, the amenities that you look for and need. Cafe, bait shop, all that
2:58
kind of stuff. That's also helpful to boaters. Where you have to look out if you're a boater
3:04
is in the backwaters. There can be submerged timber, stumps, that sort of thing. Talk to
3:12
your marina when you're, you know, paying for your boat ramp fee or you're paying for a day use fee or
3:17
what have you. Like Rick Steve says, ask a local. If you like sandbass fishing, this is a good lake
3:24
In fact, I saw just coming out here, just to the spot where I'm at, I saw a big school of them
3:31
surfacing. So, definitely a good lake for sandbass. I've heard that before as well. Now I've
3:37
witnessed it with my own two eyeballs. Also, a good lake for hybrids. If you like that little
3:43
surprise. I always think of hybrids as a surprise. Like you're sandbass fishing and then whammo
3:48
Four pound hybrid. So, it's kind of like a bonus fish. I love that. Largemouth bass, you know
3:56
catfish, sunfish, kind of the usual suspects for the southern prairie land. Fishing seems to be
4:01
better the closer you get to the dam. So, keep that in mind. For campers, if you like camper camping
4:10
RV camping, then there are some private RV parks around here. There are not any like state parks
4:19
city parks, you know, kind of your conventional campgrounds where you have a little bit of each
4:24
style of camp spot. There are RV parks and then there's like dry camping. And that's pretty much
4:31
it. There's not a lot in between. So, if you like camping in style or camping the hardcore way
4:42
then come on out and check it out. If you're kind of like in between like me, where hey we like to
4:47
have hookups, we have a little pop-up camper and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, you're on your own
4:52
If you're a hunter, just downstream of the dam is the Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area
4:58
the WMA. That's run by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Great area for hunting. For waterfront homes
5:06
this is a blossoming area for waterfront homes. Right now, it's pretty rural. It's pretty rural
5:10
but there's a lot of developments going in. And so, if your dream is to live on a lake and build
5:18
a home waterfront, Richland Chambers Lake and Cedar Creek Lake are blossoming lakes
5:24
for waterfront homes. That's Richland Chambers Lake. I'm Simon from LakeHub. We'll see you out
