Hey, this is Chris with Lake Hub. I've spent all summer long trying to teach myself how to catch striper
0:06
striped bass, specifically up at Lake Texoma, and I'm going to show you the top three lures that worked for me
0:14
So let me begin. I'm going to show you when and how I used them so that maybe it'll help you become a better stripper fisherman
0:20
One of my favorite ways to catch striped bass on Lake Texoma is on top water
0:25
And the way we would catch those is, or when we would catch those, is early in the morning
0:29
So we would get up before sunrise, I'd get my boat, trailer out there, put it in the water
0:34
and we'd head over to the dam is one spot that we would go to
0:39
And then as the sun came up, those driver would just stop hitting the top water
0:43
and then we'd start throwing top water lures. So one of the things that, one of the lures that worked the best for me was this El Chapo
0:52
All right? This is called the El Chapo. Now, the reason it's called that is it's got this spinner on the back that when you pull
0:59
it through the top water it just makes it a whole bunch of noise so based on what size
1:05
shiner they're they're feeding on or shad or whatever you guys call them i call them shiners
1:13
this throw this it floats on top of the water you pull it it makes a whole bunch of noise And I caught them on both sizes We have two different sizes here As you can see there the larger size at the bottom
1:27
And then here's a smaller one at the top. Now they both have the same functionality where they have the noise maker on the back, which is creates an incredible amount of noise
1:37
And those striper come up, clobber this thing, and you get to watch them eat it, and you get to fight them
1:43
into the boat and it's just a whole bunch of fun. So the next thing is what happens is after the
1:50
sun comes up and it starts to warm up a little bit, especially in the summertime, they start to go deep
1:54
So while they're heading out to the deep, then the top water bite stops. What we like to do is we like
2:01
to tie on this umbrella rig. Now you notice there's a whole bunch of soft tail, you know, leadhead
2:07
lures on here. It's got some extra, this one has some extra reflect
2:13
collections, you know, make it look more like a school of fish. So when those baits are moving
2:18
they're moving away from the top water where the fish had got them pinned up at the top and they're transitioning to the deeper water, then we throw this on, drop it down in the water
2:27
and then when you pull it I mean sometimes we catch two at a time But it it mimics a school of fish and by far this is one of the best lures that we used on lake uh i actually fished for strippers on Lake Texoma to catch striped bass on and um this one right here i purchased from Amazon
2:46
there's going to be a link below with the one that we bought it was the least expensive
2:50
and it already came with the soft lures a lot of times you buy these you can buy them
2:57
and it just comes with like the head it comes with the wires but then you have to buy the lead heads
3:02
and the hooks and the soft plastics you got by those separately this one all came as a complete kit
3:07
and it works fabulously now once you've kind of caught those and the fish have gone out deep
3:13
then what you have to do is you got to drop down to where they are now 50 60 feet of water sometimes
3:19
the fish go down because lake taxoma is pretty deep we like to use these things that's called a
3:23
slab basically this is just a big hunk of steel that's stamped out shaped painted to look like a fish
3:32
That's all it is you tie that directly to your line you drop it down and you just jig it as fast as you can
3:37
right and right here I've caught them on two different size Here's a more silver looking fish with the real eye and then here's a white one
3:47
Who let's try not to hook myself here Here the white one with the red eye and it just a little bit smaller again it depends on what size bait they going after but i you know if the smaller one not working try the bigger
4:01
one if the bigger one's not working try the smaller one and if you see them down there this is what
4:04
you just drop it down and just jig it until you hook one and then they'll hit that thing and
4:10
you get to pull it up so that's what we like to do when i when i go stripper fishing those are
4:15
the three main lures i use one thing i like to do is i like to go catch bait i like to use
4:20
I like to use live bait. So I'm going to have a video soon. It's going to teach you how to catch live bait, how to catch live bait, how to keep them
4:27
alive in your live well, and then how to fish for them. And what we do is we use an egg weight here, slides down to a barrel swivel, and then we
4:34
have a little bit of leader line, and then we use a nice big circle hook to keep those fish
4:40
swim in nice and active. We'll go over this rig and another video coming up in a couple weeks
4:46
So thanks for joining us. I hope that you guys can get out there on the one. water soon catch them in some top water during the day in the middle you know
4:54
while they're transitioning to deep water use your umbrella rigs tie those on or go to
4:59
your slabs throw those down when they start getting deep and pull those things up
5:03
good luck to you guys and remember go to lake hub.com or check down in the comments
5:08
below and you can see a link to all these lures so you can actually go by them yourself
