What's up everybody, it's Simon from LakeHub, and today's spotlight is on Lake Cypress Springs in Northeast Texas
0:05
This lake is small, but it is beautiful, especially in the fall
0:11
That's why it's known as the best-kept secret in Texas. So when I say it's small
0:17
it's about 3,400 acres. That makes it about one-tenth the size of
0:22
any of the major lakes that are in the same kind of area, same region
0:27
So it's small, but I'm telling you it is pretty. It's just a few miles long
0:32
but it is a gorgeous lake all the way around. So this lake was built in the 60s and early 70s. It was finished in the early 70s and
0:42
interestingly enough, it's not built on a river. It's built on a spring. So I thought that was pretty weird
0:49
It's gone through a few name changes only during the construction phase
0:53
It used to be called Big Cypress Creek Lake, and then it was called Franklin County Lake
1:00
and then it was settled on Lake Cypress Springs. So like most lakes in the area
1:06
I mean this lake is surrounded by really good fishing lakes, and so it doesn't have the notoriety that other lakes in the area have for fishing
1:14
but it's a decent fishing lake. People come out here to enjoy it
1:19
recreation, you know, enjoy the shoreline, enjoy the water, boating, fishing, kind of a mixed bag. It's a really local gem is what it is
1:30
So the fishing isn't necessarily legendary, but it is still good, especially compared to the rest of the country. And if you like white bass
1:39
Lake Cypress Springs is your jam. You gotta fish the Sandys out here
1:44
This lake is just big enough to have the amenities that you like. It has a marina
1:49
it has boat rentals, it has, you know, places to rent here and there, has a little bit of camping, and
1:55
it's close to close enough to, you know, some kind of some other, you know, destination towns in the area
2:01
They're quaint, historic, you know, East Texas small towns. No huge attractions, no huge tourism centers or anything like that. It's just
2:13
it's a small town experience, but you got to love it. For the most part
2:17
camping in the area is gonna be RV parks. It's gonna be private
2:23
privately owned, RV parks. And that's true for most of the lakes in this area
2:29
There is one state park at the lake right down the hill here
2:34
just past the dam, Sister Lake, Lake Bob Sandlin. We'll be doing a video on that one too, but there is not a state park on Lake Cypress Springs
2:43
I mean when I say it's right down the road, it's maybe 10 minutes from where I am right now, you know, just the state park, not the lake. I mean the lake is like
2:51
I can almost see the dam from where I'm at, and I'm like halfway across the lake here
2:57
So just past that dam, it's Lake Bob Sandlin. Lake Bob Sandlin State Park is right around the corner there
3:03
But we're not talking about that lake today. We're talking about Cypress Springs
3:07
There's a little bit of opportunity in the area if you're a golfer
3:11
This isn't, you know, like mega golf country, but there's a few country clubs, private courses, and stuff like that around here if you like to golf
3:20
Right now we're here in fall, and you can just, I don't know if you can see behind me
3:24
but it is just, oh, it's just gorgeous. So you have this kind of mix of East Texas Piney Woods
3:29
You have hardwoods, this, you know, kind of post oak savanna terrain that's kind of mixed in
3:35
transitioning into the Piney Woods. And so it's all kind of intermingled, and it's just, it's a really beautiful drive
3:41
No matter what side, I've driven into this lake from like pretty much every side, and no matter what side you're coming in
3:48
it is just, it's just the prettiest little drive. They're all little Tulane country roads and big open farms
3:55
woods. Gosh, I love this area. If you like antiques, this area is awesome for antiques
4:02
There are some, some total hidden gems out here. A lot of small towns, antique malls, antique shops
4:09
garage sales, yard sales, and Lake Cypress Springs is on the Highway 11 80 mile treasure trail that happens in October out here
4:20
You got to check that out. So if you're looking for a quiet getaway, if you're looking for a really pretty weekend out on the lake
4:27
check out Lake Cypress Springs in Northeast Texas. You won't be disappointed. I'm Simon from LakeUB. We'll catch you next time
