Hey everybody it's Simon from Lakehub. Welcome back to the Lakehub library. Today we have a book review
0:06
Born to Fish by Tim Gallagher and Greg Meyerson. Now the book is about Greg Meyerson's life
0:13
and so he's more of a contributor. It's kind of a semi-autobiography. Tim Gallagher is more or less
0:21
the author. This book was written in 2018. It's pretty fresh. It's a really easy read and a great
0:30
story about someone who was absolutely obsessed with chasing striped bass on the eastern seaboard
0:38
I was at my local library perusing the shelves and this thing caught my eye and I just grabbed
0:44
it on a whim and read it cover to cover. It is an easy read. It's a really compelling story
0:51
and this is one pretty incredible larger than life dude right here. So about a decade ago Greg Meyerson
1:00
broke the world record striped bass and then broke his own record. This was a 35, 40, at the time it
1:10
was about a 30 year old record. So now he is the man. He invented a product, his little secret weapon
1:22
that helped him catch his world record bass. He's been on Shark Tank. He's had, you know, he's got
1:29
like a tv show in the works. All state, state champion football player in Rhode Island and one
1:36
of these incredible dudes who has just been through everything. Every up and down, addiction
1:45
near-death experiences, crazy life. His dad was tied up in the mob. I don't want to give away too much
1:52
but his life is just absolutely bananas and the common thread throughout his entire life has just
1:58
been absolute and total obsession over fishing. So as far as fishing stories go, I mean, okay so
2:06
Old Man and the Sea is like here right? I mean this one's like right here. It's up there. It's
2:14
a really compelling story. If you love fishing like I do, if you love striped bass, I mean this is a
2:20
really good read. I'll give you a warning. If salty language is not your thing, you don't want to read
2:26
this. Greg is a man of the sea. Talks like a sailor. There's some pretty, you know, kind of
2:36
raw and real scenarios in here that are pretty gnarly. Like I said, mob ties, stuff like that. So
2:45
there's some pretty gritty stuff. If you kind of shy away from that, don't read this. Otherwise
2:53
Simon approved. Lighthub approved. This is a great story. I'll put a link down below
2:58
so you can buy one for yourself if you're curious about reading this. Born to fish
