The Water is fine so jump on in!

Swimming is the activity of the month for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and what better way to beat the dog days of summer than frolicking in the waters of Lake Texoma? Beat the heat — while enjoying a fun, healthy activity in the great outdoors.

Recently released reports by the Grayson County Health Department indicate the blue-green algae levels are substantially below the established safety limits. Based on those reports, the health department says Lake Texoma is safe for swimming and all forms of lake recreation.

In addition to swimming, a multitude of other water activities are popular on Lake Texoma – Stand Up Paddle Boarding, tubing, water skiing, riding jet skis, kayaking and canoeing are just of few of the other water sports available. Bring your own water toys or rent them from local marinas.

It has been a rather unusual summer with several cold fronts moving thru the area, bringing rains to Lake Texoma and the watershed. Cooler temperatures and high humidly have lessened the evaporation rate resulting in a water level rise of about 3 feet since June to its current level of 612.04. Most boat ramp facilities are open.

In addition, the Grayson County Health Department released its test result from the mosquito pools and found no West Nile Virus present – just a little icing on the cake! Now it didn’t say there weren’t any mosquitos, they just aren’t carrying the WNV, so bring the bug spray.

It is a fine time indeed to enjoy Lake Texoma. The fishing reports indicate that plenty of box fish are being caught and monster stripers are being reeled in.

So what are you waiting for, the water is fine, jump on in!
