National Fishing & Boating Week; Free Fishing Saturday, June 6

National Fishing and Boating Week will take place June 6-14th, 2020. On Saturday, June 6, anyone can fish recreationally without a license in Texas.

Boating and Fishing are fun, stress-relieving activities that you can enjoy with your family, a great way for family members of all ages to connect and have fun. Take someone new with you: a child, a relative, a friend. Boating is ranked as one of the top 3 of all stress-relieving activities.

“Free Fishing Day is a wonderful opportunity for anglers to share their knowledge, skills, equipment, and love for fishing with a new participant, yet it’s also more than that,” said TPWD inland fisheries director Craig Bonds. “We hope those trying fishing on this special day will also learn that purchasing a license is an act of conservation.”

Getting a fishing license is easier than you think. People can support fisheries science and management.

Official Texas recreational hunting & fishing licenses, tags, permits and stamps are available at approximately 1,700 locations throughout the state in addition to TPWD offices and Texas State Parks. Retail locations include sporting goods stores, gun shops, department stores, discount stores, bait and tackle shops, grocery stores, and many other types of stores.

Order by phone: (800) 895-4248 Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST. Closed for most state holidays. Anglers no longer need to carry their paper fishing license. A legible digital photo, emailed receipt, online purchase record or digital copy of your fishing license is also acceptable.

The funds from your fishing licenses and boat registrations go towards the conservation of our natural aquatic areas.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Sep. 10)

GOOD. Water stained; 83-84 degrees; 0.07 feet above pool. Watch for topwater striper activity early and late. Fish are still moving fast in deep water and down ledges. Lures and live bait as the water starts to cool off. Big fish are off main lake points at daylight on big pencil poppers. Catfishing is good on punch bait and cut shad. Baited holes are producing numbers of channels in 20-25 feet of water on points and flats near ditches. Blue catfish are schooled up in deeper water off river ledges. Big blues will start showing up on deep flats, drifting cut shad and whole gizzard shad in 50-60 feet of water. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service.
