Tanglewood Resort announces new executive chef

Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center has announced that “Angela” will be their new Executive Chef. You know it is something special if you only need one name like Madonna, Pele or Prince. Best known for Angela’s Café or bakery, Angela may not be a certified chef, but she is a darn good cook and when I go out to eat, that’s all I care about.

Angela has always had a passion for cooking. She started her catering business in 1999 in Melissa, Texas where she made casseroles, breads and desserts for young professionals to pick up and take home for dinner. Later Angela opened a little restaurant in Denison. For three and a half years she operated her casserole, catering and restaurant business from that location.

Angela’s Café expanded and bought the building on Hwy 69 and South Austin in Denison and started a bakery. With Roseanna Taylor as the head baker, fabulously delicious cakes, pies, breads, and all kinds of tasty treats were created. In addition to the restaurant, Angela shared her love of cooking with classes and ‘how to” segments on local TV stations. Eventually the café expanded to serving dinner, Sunday brunch, along with catering and of course, casseroles to go.

Eventually Angela moved the restaurant to the Denison Country Club and Golf Course. The Grand Opening was spectacular with Angela showcasing all of her wonderful talent at creating delectable dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and fabulous desserts. She learned to orchestrate everything from the kitchen, the restaurant, the banquet rooms and off-site catering.

Just to add a little complexity to her life, two summers ago, Angela took over the management of the Point Restaurant at Grandpappy Marina. All of these opportunities have helped Angela hone her skills in banquets, large catering events, restaurant management and event planning - skills that she will need at Tanglewood.

Already known as one of the best fine dining experiences on Lake Texoma, Tanglewood Resort has two restaurants and three bar areas. It will be interesting to see what creative ideas Angela has for Barnacles, the casual dining experience and the main dining room, known for delectable Prime Rib, Steaks and Seafood. Will there be cooking classes and wine paring experiences? Surely she will continue to serve her famous casseroles! Stay tuned for updates!

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 21)

FAIR. Water stained; 65 degrees; 14.91 feet above pool. Striper fishing is still very hit-and-miss with the muddy water. Spend time looking for better conditions in the backs of coves and in the trees. Cast topwaters, swimbaits or live bait if you can locate clear water. Catfishing is excellent with the current conditions. Limits of channel catfish are possible with good pre-spawn fish mixed in. Target 20-30 feet of water with prepared baits anchored near the bottom along rock banks. Blue catfish will be up shallow in the backs of creeks and catchable from the banks on cut shad and prepared baits. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. The water clarity is extremely muddy creating tough conditions for striped bass. Some stripers can be caught with live bait. Catfish can be targeted around big rocks and drop-offs with punch bait or cut shad. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors. As we enjoy a weekend of fishing we salute and honor our Nation’s heroes this Memorial Day. Anticipate increased recreational boater traffic this weekend.
