Take Me to the Lake

Living in the Lake Texoma area has to be one of the greatest places to live! I recently saw a sign that says, “Heaven is a little closer with a house by the Lake.” This goes for our whole area. You don’t have to live on the water, if you live in the Texoma region and are just a drive away; you are already by the lake.

Over the years of living here I’ve talked to several people who have told me that they never go to the lake. What? This surprised me, just like growing up in Southern California I heard people say that they never go to the ocean. I understand busy life and how time gets away from us, but I urge everybody to go down to the lake from time to time. It will slow you down a little and refresh you in many ways. For me, I go almost daily.

Our lake has been through quite a bit the last few years. It’s gone through a drought and a couple of historic floods. Marinas, restaurants and homes were destroyed by those floods. The lake was basically shut down; but they rebuilt and are now back in business. Right now, in this summer of 2016, Lake Texoma is where it should be. Boats, people and wildlife are out there having a good time.

Have you checked out a Lake Texoma sunset? They are amazing and always different! They’ll take your breath away. If you have a boat, kayak or a raft, getting on the water is so relaxing. There is so much beauty all around us.

While floating around on a raft a couple of weeks ago I took in all that I was seeing. I saw deer that came down to drink some water and stuck around. I saw crane birds that were landing nearby trying to catch the fish that were taunting them as they jumped all around us. (And taunting me, I wish I had my fishing pole!)

I also saw flocks of geese flying above me in their v formation to land for the upcoming sunset. I heard their honks before I saw them and then another flock came through that not even one made a sound and all I heard was the sound of their wings as they flew over my head. Wow!

Yes, Lake Texoma is such a beautiful place to live or visit. So whether you live on the lake or in the Texoma region you can enjoy what we have right here in our own area of living. Just take a drive down to a marina, restaurant or a boat ramp one of these days soon and enjoy all that’s around you. Breath it in. Especially since our recent hot days, there’s no better place to be then in the water.

Take me to the lake!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 30)

FAIR. Water stained; 62 degrees; 3.54 feet below pool. The striper fishing is great with the rise in water levels and surface temperatures. The shad spawn is in full force, look for fish shallow along rocky banks on Topwaters and swimbaits. Look for birds on the banks and surface activity. Crappie are still scattered and in spawning stages. Fish are suspended under docks and near the top of brush. Jigs and small shad are working in 12-15 feet of water near creeks and coves. Catfish are showing up along the rocks and shallow flats. Cut shad or prepared baits in 5-12 feet of water near points and drop-offs. Bass are at the backs of coves and for suspended fish near docks. The shad spawn and rise in lake levels will pull fish on to the banks as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. The lake is up several feet and there is lots of mud and floating debris, so navigate with caution. Striped bass are good along mudlines, flats and under the birds with swimbaits. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
