Lake Texoma, one of the biggest reservoirs in the US, includes approximately twelve-hundred miles of shorelines.  The lake waters cover about ninety-three thousand acres.


Main Sources of Water – The two main sources of water flow into Lake Texoma is from the Red River and the Washita River. Lake Texoma taps into the Red River from Denison Dam.


Construction Time – Lake Texoma was constructed during World War II. German prisoners helped construct the dam. The prisoners were the first prisoners of war to be used in labor camps.

Initial Cost – The initial cost of construction of Denison Dam in 1944 came at a cost of fifty-four million dollars.


Relocation Efforts – During the construction of Lake Texoma, relocation efforts included moving railroads, existing highways, cemeteries, as well as public utilities.

Playground of the South – Lake Texoma is known as the “Playground of the South.” The lake area offers all kinds of amenities for visitors, locals, and tourists – including hunting, fishing, water sports, water play, boating, vacationing, shopping, eating, hiking, biking, riding horses, and playing – for children and adults alike.

 

Striper Capital of the World – Texoma earns the famous name of “Striper Capital of the World” due to the number of striped bass reproduced in the lake. The striped bass reproduce naturally in their water habitat.

 

Estimated Lake Visitors – According to Tulsa District Lake Info, Lake Texoma brings more than six million lake visitors each year. 


Fish Variety – Lake Texoma holds a wide variety of fish. Black crappie, smallmouth plus largemouth bass, and channel catfish, as well as blue cats, swarm the waters of the lake along with other types.


Lake Texoma Islands – There are a number of small islands on Lake Texoma which can be accessed via the water ways. A few of the islands include Hog Island, West Island, Treasure Island, Wood Island, North Island, and Little Island.


Access to Two State Parks – Visitors to Lake Texoma gain access to two different state park systems. On the Oklahoma side, vacationers have easy access to Lake Texoma State Park. On the Texas side, lake visitors gain access to Eisenhower State Park. There are also managed parks with the state park systems providing a wide range of locations to choose from.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Feb. 5)

FAIR. Water stained; 48 degrees; 1.71 feet below pool. Striper fishing has slowed down with the water levels dropping and the extreme change in weather. Look at humps, ledges, and structure in 15-30 feet of water, as well as deep water on ledges and river channels in 55–65 feet of water, using flukes while drifting to cover water. Look for bigger fish to move up into coves and shallow water, chasing big gizzard shad throughout the day. Crappie are on brush and structure in 18–25 feet of water, but target shallower water on warmer days as fish start to move toward creeks and coves on the lake. To target bass, focus on rocks and structures that hold baitfish in warmer water. Use a slow presentation, covering different depths off drop-offs and ledges in 8–15 feet of water. Catfishing is picking up. Look for big blues in shallow water near river inlets, especially with the recent rains and big gizzard shad pulling into the muddy, warmer water. Anchor fish with gizzard shad and cut heads off the bottom in 5–15 feet of water. In creek channels off flats, drift fish in 20–30 feet of water. .Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Guaranteed Guide Service.
