New Lake Texoma Striper RECORD | Lake Texoma Fishing Report

Lake Texoma Fishing Report - A north Texas woman reeled in a new record-sized Lake Texoma striped bass this past week, hauling the massive fish out of Lake Texoma near the northern shore.

Barbara Pope reeled in the 27-pound Lake Texoma striper December 5th, shattering the previous 20-pound record for the Oklahoma side of the lake. The huge fish was estmated to be eight-to-ten years old. The 27.29-pound 38 3/4" striper has been certified as a Oklahoma-Lake Texoma striped bass record, and, weighs in at 6 pounds more than the previous lake record striper catch.

Barbara Pope is a resident of Dallas and a life-long angler. She and her husband entertain their guests in every season by fishing on Lake Texoma. "But I come in December for the trophy fishing", Barbara says.

"This trip was an all-girl reunion" – Barbara had invited two girlfriends from her sorority days at Oklahoma State University. They were drift fishing with Chris Carey of Striper Express Guide Service using artificial bait in water depths ranging from 15 to 40 feet deep. Barbara was casting on an underwater structure main lake point about Noon when the big female fish struck her lure.

"Oh my gosh, it seemed a lifetime fighting the fish. I was leaning back and the rod was bent so far it looked to break at any time. I knew this was a special fish by the excitement in Chris's voice" said Barbara.

"Chris knew this was a BIG fish – when it surfaced everyone went crazy!"

While heavier stripers have been caught in previous years at Lake Texoma, this fish represents the largest striped bass from the Oklahoma side of the lake since the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation started keeping records in 2008.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 21)

FAIR. Water stained; 65 degrees; 14.91 feet above pool. Striper fishing is still very hit-and-miss with the muddy water. Spend time looking for better conditions in the backs of coves and in the trees. Cast topwaters, swimbaits or live bait if you can locate clear water. Catfishing is excellent with the current conditions. Limits of channel catfish are possible with good pre-spawn fish mixed in. Target 20-30 feet of water with prepared baits anchored near the bottom along rock banks. Blue catfish will be up shallow in the backs of creeks and catchable from the banks on cut shad and prepared baits. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. The water clarity is extremely muddy creating tough conditions for striped bass. Some stripers can be caught with live bait. Catfish can be targeted around big rocks and drop-offs with punch bait or cut shad. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors. As we enjoy a weekend of fishing we salute and honor our Nation’s heroes this Memorial Day. Anticipate increased recreational boater traffic this weekend.
