Preston Point Comes Alive For The 2013 Season on Lake Texoma

We've looked at the history of Preston TX, and examined some future plans for the area, too. But what's happening right now? What do you have to look forward to when you drive up Hwy 289 and look around? Well, for one thing, you'll probably be surprised, especially if you haven't visited the area in a while. Things are happening, for sure. The Happy Cajun is an established restaurant that's just been entirely remodeled. It's open from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM now, and there's an Official Grand opening scheduled for Friday, April 19th. The Happy Cajun's page on Facebook is a great place to see photos of its new look, and to keep posted on events. Radio station KLAK will be doing a live remote broadcast from the restaurant from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. And then Cody O'Neill and the Crosswind Band will be playing live out on the patio from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM as well. Lots going on, so don't miss it. Lighthouse Resort and Marina is expanding, too. There are forty-five cabins for rent, and some for sale, too. Some have been recently remodeled for the 2013 summer season, so call 903.786.2311 to get your reservations. And if you're bringing along your family dog, be sure and ask about the pet-friendly cabins. All cabins are fully furnished with fully cable television, towels, linens, basic dishes, cookware and utensils, a BBQ grill, refrigerator, coffee pot, and most have a microwave oven. If you need to arrange for slip rental during your stay, it's available on a first-come-first-served basis. Pontoon boats, sailboats and kayaks are available for rent, as well as canoes, paddle boats and tubes for the whole family. The RV park has 30 & 50 amp hookups, a dump station and a park-like grassy area right next the water, including picnic tables for all campers. About twenty striper and catfish guides work out of Lighthouse Marina, so you can arrange for a great day (or more) of fishing even if you don't own a boat. And afterwards, if you're not having a fish fry, Dreamland Catering can bring in a BBQ wagon and serve your fishing party or cabin groups by calling 903-361-0504 for a reservation. Texoma Destinations is the place to get all the information about what's happening on Preston Point now. Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 23)

FAIR. Water stained; 62 degrees; 1.16 feet below pool. The striper fishing is great with the rise in water levels and surface temperatures. The shad spawn is in full force, look for fish shallow along rocky banks on Topwaters and swimbaits. Look for birds on the banks and surface activity. Crappie are still scattered and in spawning stages. Fish are suspended under docks and near the top of brush. Jigs and small shad are working in 12-15 feet of water near creeks and coves. Catfish are showing up along the rocks and shallow flats. Cut shad or prepared baits in 5-12 feet of water near points and drop-offs. Bass are at the backs of coves and for suspended fish near docks. The shad spawn and rise in lake levels will pull fish on to the banks as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass can be found in all depths under the birds. Some fish will move into the creeks searching for warmer water due to the rising water. Best baits are swimbaits in deeper water under seagulls, and topwater under egrets are working the banks. The water is muddy in the river so this will push fish to the main lake seeking better clarity. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
