Trout Stocking to Begin Nov. 1 on Lower Mountain Fork River

Exciting angling isn't just found during warmer weather. It's also available for anyone who takes advantage of the Oklahoma trout fishery opportunities during the colder months of the year.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation stocks year-round trout fisheries in the Lower Mountain Fork River below Broken Bow dam and in several other locations. Trout are normally stocked every week or two. For more details, go to www.wildlifedepartment.com/fishing/trout-information.

Trout anglers must carry a resident or nonresident fishing license while fishing.

Trout, both rainbows and browns, are introduced species to Oklahoma. They thrive in colder waters and make excellent table fare. Using ultralight fishing gear with 4- to 6-pound test line and small hooks can lead to some thrilling action. For other tips, go to www.wildlifedepartment.com/fishing/trout-information.

Trout fishing regulations, including daily and size limits, restricted areas and site maps, can be found in the current Oklahoma Hunting and Fishing Regulations Guide found online at wildlifedepartment.com, on the Go Outdoors Oklahoma free mobile app for Apple or Android devices, or in print across the state wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 28)

FAIR. Water stained; 74 degrees; 13.23 feet above pool. Striper fishing is still very tough with the current water clarity. Continue to watch for fish pushing up in the trees and flooded coves looking for clear water. Topwaters along with swimbaits will be your best bet. Catfishing remains great as channels are spawning on rock banks. Punch bait and prepared baits are working great in 15-20 feet of water anchored up. Also fish outflow creeks and the rivers for blues with cut shad or rough fish. Jug lines are producing fish for some as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. The water clarity is starting to clear but is still muddy so it is still tough conditions for striped bass. Some stripers can be caught with live bait. Channel catfish can be targeted around big rocks and drop-offs in 20-30 feet of water cut bait. Very little floating debris in the water. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
