David Mitchell (Mitch) is a 25-year member of the Oklahoma City Fire Department who participated in the search and rescues for the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building Bombing and also the May 3, 1999 tornado. He has been married for 20 years and he and his wife have two children at home.

Mitch holds a Lake Texoma OUPV License. In order to obtain an OUPV license, you must hold a current CPR card and have First Aid training. You must also pass an initial drug screen as well as random drug testing. In addition to the OUPV license, Mitch holds current Oklahoma and Texas State guide licenses. He meets all liability insurance requirements.

Mitch guides out of Buncombe Creek Marina on the Oklahoma side of the lake and out of Cedar Bayou Marina on the Texas side of the lake. His boat is a 2008 Falcon with a quiet and environmentally friendly four stroke 225 Yamaha outboard. All of his fishing equipment is in good working condition and is replaced before it is necessary. His boat is clean and he believes in doing preventative maintenance instead of waiting for it to break to fix it. He has been a Texoma Guide for over eight years and has fished on the lake since he was 12. His actions in the boat and his language are family friendly.

You can be assured that Mitch is a fully-licensed, professional Texoma fishing guide.

When you Fish With Mitch, plan on leaving the dock around daylight. We?re usually on the water for six hours or less. Some days we catch more than our limit and release fish, other days we work hard to catch the limit.

Most of the time, I bait fish. Occasionally, we?ll throw top water baits or fish with sassy shad. I determine how we?ll fish based on what the fish are biting. I also take into account the skill level of the people who are fishing.

Afternoon trips are sometimes available. I don?t schedule more than one trip per day. I want to be sure that my customers have all the time they need to catch their fish. There are slow days and I don?t want my customers to feel rushed.

Multiple boat trips are available; however I will not mix groups. You don?t have to worry about fishing with people who aren?t with your group.

Four people is an ideal number to fish comfortably in the boat, however, I can accommodate up to six people.

I do not provide food/drinks but you are welcome to bring your own.

At the end of the trip, I will clean and bag all of your fish for you. You can wait at the dock, or go to the restaurant and eat. This generally takes less than an hour from the time we get back to the dock.

If you are booking a group trip with multiple guides, please know I will only contract with other guides who are licensed to guide on Lake Texoma and are properly insured. There will be a $100 deposit per boat at the time of booking.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 23)

FAIR. Water stained; 62 degrees; 1.16 feet below pool. The striper fishing is great with the rise in water levels and surface temperatures. The shad spawn is in full force, look for fish shallow along rocky banks on Topwaters and swimbaits. Look for birds on the banks and surface activity. Crappie are still scattered and in spawning stages. Fish are suspended under docks and near the top of brush. Jigs and small shad are working in 12-15 feet of water near creeks and coves. Catfish are showing up along the rocks and shallow flats. Cut shad or prepared baits in 5-12 feet of water near points and drop-offs. Bass are at the backs of coves and for suspended fish near docks. The shad spawn and rise in lake levels will pull fish on to the banks as well. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. Striped bass can be found in all depths under the birds. Some fish will move into the creeks searching for warmer water due to the rising water. Best baits are swimbaits in deeper water under seagulls, and topwater under egrets are working the banks. The water is muddy in the river so this will push fish to the main lake seeking better clarity. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
