(Kingston, OK) -- Is Lake Texoma the victim of an extended drought, outdated federal laws governing hydro-electric power, or both? A recently formed Lake Texoma community group, "Save Lake Texoma," will hold their first public meeting Saturday at 1PM in Kingston. They will be discussing these and other questions of concern to area businesses.
The second highest ranking Democrat in the state legislature, senator Jerry Ellis (Valliant), will be the keynote speaker. He will share first-hand, personal stories about protecting Oklahoma's water and state parks.
The meeting was designed to provide a local forum for legislators, area business owners and residents concerned about the impacts of drought and lower lake levels on Lake Texoma's tourism economy. Federal and state officials were invited to provide their insights and possible solutions.
Honored guests and speakers also include: Lisa D. Davis, wildlife biologist, retired USDA law enforcement officer, and deputy director of Restore Lake Texoma State Park based in Kingston. Also speaking are, Robert Jackman, Tulsa geologist and consultant on Oklahoma's comprehensive state water plan; and Robyn King, founder of Save Lake Texoma. We will honor special guest, Charlette Hearne, the President of Oklahomans for Responsible Water Policy (ORWP) for her extensive work in the public interest.
Senator Ellis has sponsored legislation defending Oklahoma's water resources. He is currently sponsoring a bill to protect Oklahoma's state parks, SB 1959, "The Rural Tourism Protection Act." He is an unannounced likely candidate for the U.S. 2nd Congressional District of Oklahoma.
The Kingston Multipurpose Center is located at 411 NE 3rd Street. Doors will open at 12:30 and the meeting will start at 1 PM. For information call (580) 564-7205
