I posted earlier about the proposed new lake in Fannin County... It's called The Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir (on paper) and the 16,526-acre lake is still in the discussion and permission stages of development.
Last week the Federal Environment Protection Agency (EPA) called a halt to the permission process, simply noting that there were inadequacies in the Army Corps of Engineers' methodology.
Who knows what that means?
All we know for sure is that the Corps has to go back to the drawing board to provide the EPA with what it needs to see in order to get the permission process back on track.
The North Texas Water District is constructing the lake as a containment reservoir, to be situated north of Highway 82, east of Bonham TX, and to serve fast-growing communities south of it. This reservoir is not being designed to take and hold water removed from Lake Texoma. It will collect and hold water from its own, separate watershed area.
So, that's why it's of interest to anyone who cares about Lake Texoma. The new reservoir will be a good thing for us because there will be another source of water besides Lake Texoma to serve North Texas households when it is completed.
Anybody who wants to have a say in the matter can show up on Wednesday July 31st at 2:00 pm when Robert McCarthy, Permit Manager of the North Texas Municipal Water District will be speaking to the public about the permitting process. Here's the address, in case you'd like to attend:
TEAM Center
206 W. 16th
Bonham TX
Oh, and according to the Fannin County Leader, when you come to the meeting in person you'll also get served some free pie from Cappy's Cafe.
The map below shows the North Texas Municipal Water District service area where water collected in the new lake will be used.
