Flip Flop Foundation Fish Fry and Fishing Tournament(s)

The Flip Flop Foundation was formed by a long time group of friends who loved to give parties and wanted to find a way to give back to the Grayson County (TX) community. This will be the 2nd Annual Flip Flop Foundation Fish Fry and Fishing Tournament.

Actually, make that two fishing tournaments in one event. Two person largemouth black bass teams will compete in one tournament; up to 6 person Striper teams will compete with the best two fish in the other.

The Event will be held at Highport Marina on Lake Texoma October 3, 2014. USA Fishing Trails will be running the tournaments. Proceeds will benefit the Gabe Carter Family Memorial Fund. Gabe was a local fishing guide who died suddenly leaving behind his wife and young child.

In addition to the fishing tournaments, there will be a fish fry beginning at 12:30 pm and Raffle drawings at 4:30 pm. You do not have to participate in the fishing tournaments to participate in the Fish Fry. It will be a fun afternoon at Club 640 at Highport Marina with a bounce house and games for adults and kids so bring the family. Tickets to the fish fry will be available for purchase the day of the event.

There is still time to enter the tournaments. To register for the tournament and to review the rules, go to www.USAFishingTrails.com, then select the Bud Light Trail then click on the Registration/Entry Form in the top navigation menu.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

GOOD. Water normal stain; 63 degrees; 1.32 feet below pool. Striped bass fishing is great on live shad in 30-40 feet of water on main lake points and ledges. Top waters working early around rocky banks, be on the lookout for white birds on the banks early. It will only get better as the striper finish their spawn and the shad start theirs. Crappie fishing is good on brush piles using jigs in 14-18 feet of water. Electronics help locate active fish roaming and sticking the brush. Monkeys milk and mo glo colors working the best. Bass fishing is good on top waters early and swim baits off the banks late morning. Live shad producing numbers and big spawned out fish along the bluffs. Catfish are fair on cut shad and prepared baits anchored in 40-50 feet of water in creek channels and near ledges. Look along the rocks for blues and channels spawning and looking for shad. Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Hybrid stripers are good on topwater along the bank early in the morning. Watch for egrets and seagulls. Then switch to sassy shad 4 inch glo on flats and points in 10-20 feet of water. Shad continue to spawn. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
