Christmas is a special time of the year where we give to those we care for and want them to feel special in our hearts. I understand wanting to buy the moon for someone because they are THAT special to us but of course we have our bank accounts that can prevent us from buying the moon. A Christmas gift from the heart can be one of the most memorable gifts! If you’re looking for a special gift for that special someone I have just a few ideas for you; whether he or she is your wife, husband, parent, grandparent, child or friend.
Sure, there are gifts that are desired such as tablets, the newest phone, video games, clothes, jewelry, etc. And although those gifts can surely make your receiver feel special, what if those types of gifts are almost expected, you know, because it’s Christmas; but what about also a gift that builds a deeper memory, a memory in the heart. And sometimes these types of gifts take a bit of extra time to put into, which adds to the significance of your gift.
Here are a few ideas:
**Taking a drive out to our own lake, Lake Texoma and finding a spot to either have a picnic on a table somewhere, like Eisenhighower State Park and taking in the beauty around you, even in the winter, with that person you love, giving of your time to them as our time seems to take away within the hustle and bustle of the season. There are also great hiking trails out there as well.
**Writing a letter on paper that you decorated festively to your loved one, just sharing why you love them and noting things that stand out to you about them. Sometimes we get so busy that time gets away from us and just letting one know why they are important and special to you can mean so much! (Example: a teenager, a spouse, a parent, a grandparent, a friend…)
**Making a craft of some sort and if you need ideas, there are plenty of great and simple ideas on Pinterest or maybe you have something that is a hobby already that you can personalize for your loved one. Driving down to our Hobby Lobby in Sherman can also give you some special ideas. (Painting a design on some wood to hang in their home or room or even using any wood you have laying around to build something simple that will impact their heart).
**Making up a coupon book that you really follow through on with coupons such as – Foot Massage, Lunch, Date night of their choice, and Movies with their friends or you! The list is endless.
** Making a small basket with all of their little favorites that you’ve listened too and know, such as – favorite candy that you can get from Mama Maria’s Main Street Candy and Shaved Ice in Denison, Their favorite drink, lipstick/chapstick, mascara, book, magazine, socks, gift card to their favorite ice cream place, $10 gas card, favorite popcorn that you can get at Pop Around The Corner on Main Street in Denison, and etc.; And then wrapped with a ribbon in their favorite color.
I remember my Grandma on her 90th birthday. She was opening her gifts and she was way more interested in her cards than the gifts and would spend some time reading what the person wrote in every card. I urged her to continue on opening her gifts, as there were many, but she got tears in her eyes when she responded, “My cards ARE the gifts I love the most and I cherish in my heart what has been written to me.” I learned something sweet that day.
So whatever you come up with to simplify and make your loved one feel so very special by using your time and thoughtfulness, will be a memorable Christmas gift that will be worth every bit of your effort. It’s these gifts that will certainly be treasured.
