Striper's are Fat & Sassy on Lake Texoma

The weather forecast was for chilly rain and then more rain and some gusty wind, but that didn't deter Chris Carey, at Striper Express and his client, Paul Bandiera from Dallas TX and 3 of his buddies. Despite the overcast day, the stripers at Lake TExoma woke up hungry! While driving across the lake, Chris and his clients saw a small group of seagulls working over the water above some Loons. Chris quietly positioned the boat upwind so they could drift back through the commotion.  It didn't take long and they all were into good fish casting and retrieving swimbaits available from Moe Tackle (www.moestackleshop.com). The morning continued to yield many nice fish PLUS 4 larger striped bass that weighed in excess of 10 pounds.  This is a good day of fishing in the rain for sure!

The bite slowed for an hour or so when Chris saw some more gulls working, he repositioned the boat and on the 2nd cast Paul hooked up with this behemoth Striped Bass and the battle began.  The big fish made a long run almost stripping all the 15 lb line off his baitcasting reel.  Paul had gained most of the line back when the fish suddenly turned and made another 50 yard reel screaming dash for freedom.  After several shorter runs the big fish came to the surface about 30 feet from the boat.  The clients eyes popped as they saw the size of this fine fish.  After giving all she had to get off the hook, the giant Lake Texoma striper rolled on her side and Chris was ready with the net.  WOW...what a magnificient fish!!!

**Photographs were quickly taken along with weight and length so the fish could be released alive to be caught another day, maybe by you!!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 27)

GOOD. Water normal stain; 57 degrees; 1.86 feet below pool. Striped bass are good using live shad and cut bait anchored in 45-65 feet of water thumping the boat and running a splasher to get the fish under the boat. Recent rains will have a lot of big female fish up river but look for them on flats and structure with swim baits in 12-25 feet of water. Crappie are good on jigs using electronics to fish brush in the little mineral arm 15-22 feet of water. Also seeing fish in the creeks 2-4 feet of water on brush. Smallmouth or largemouth bass are slow fishing docks and structure with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Look for SM on gravel beds along the bluffs in 6-12 feet of water. Catfish are slow on cut gizzard shad anchored near the rivers in 5-10 feet of water but starting to see eater size fish coming on ledges and flats in 40-55 feet of water. Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Striped bass continue to be caught with Alabama rigs or sassy shad targeting ledges and structures in 5-40 feet of water. Some sporadic schooling activity and bird action. Some fish are moving into creeks. The shad spawn should begin as the water near 68 degrees. This runs around six weeks, bringing predator fish shallow and kicks off topwater season. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
