Bud Light Trail Striper Challenge Open Team Tournament

The final Bud Light Trail Lake Texoma Striper Challenge Open Team Tournament of 2014 will be held on December 14th out of Highport Marina. With the size of fish being caught recently, this should be a great tournament!

Entry fee is $200 per team of 1 – 6 anglers. A minor under the age of 16 may enter the tournament as either an adult or a minor child. If they enter as an adult all Team rules apply. If they enter as a minor the entry fee will be $20 per minor contestant and the payout will be a 100% payback on a % basis to all minors who enter. One fish per minor may be weighted in. All minor children under the age of 16 must sign a waiver.

Early registration can be done by credit card online at www.usfishingtrails.com or the entry form can be printed and mailed. Late registration will begin at 5 am the morning of the tournament at Highport Marina.

The two largest stripers per team that are caught by anglers entered in the tournament will be weighed in. Stripers must be brought in on ice and will be returned to the anglers. Trailering is allowed and boats can launch from any ramp. Anglers can return to the weigh in site by water or trailer back if they desire.

Stop fishing time will be at 1 pm on the lake (bait out of the water) and anglers must be in line with fish by 2 pm at Highport Marina. Guides are welcome to participate. The guide has the choice to enter the tournament with their crew.

The Striper Challenge tournaments have no membership fees. The tournament will payout 80% of the adult entry fee collected on a one per five paid entry basis. USAFT will keep 20% to cover the expense of the tournament.

All prizes and angler results will be posted on the USA FT web site. Pay out schedules and angler prizes are determined by the number of paid entries and sponsor participation. The Prize money will be handed out at the conclusion of the weigh in and polygraph examinations.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 10)

GOOD. Water normal stain; 58 degrees; 1.75 feet below pool. Striped bass are great using live shad on anchor in 30-45 feet of water on steep bank ledges and points around creeks and rocks. The shad spawn will be happening in certain areas and lake wide over the next week. Topwaters and swimbaits will also work on the banks. Watch for herons and egrets along the banks. Crappie fishing is improving under docks and on submerged structures using electronics to locate active fish. Some crappie are still in the creeks and on structures and lay downs in 2-5 feet of water. Catfish are fair on cut shad in the Main lake river channels 50-60 feet of water and near the river inlets after the recent rains. Bass are good on live shad along the bluffs off the banks in 5-10 feet of water. Topwaters early and plastics late time of year. Check the wind blown points with small gravel and boulders. Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Hybrid stripers are good on the flats in 15 feet or less with swimbaits, or trolling. Expect the topwater and slab bite to heat up soon. Fish are at the peak to the end of the spawn. A few fish are schooling and the birds are starting to work. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
