Better Luck Next Time

It has been some time since I have posted a fishing report on here.  There are numerous reasons for that!.   Lets just leave it at, left knee replacement, and we can forget poor fishing conditions.   Agreed.  Not so, but lets take it back to mid summer, and if anyone can remember that time, it was when this lake was flooded so bad, resulting not only changing fishing conditions, but the devastation of homes and business around the lake.   It was a time lots of people would rather forget.  Not only was the lake a deep red, dirty from flowing water from rivers into the lake.   Prior to that we were caching great fish, big fish, 12-20 pounds daily, then lost a lot of them over the spillway, and though the dam.   Fishing suddenly became great below the dam, not me, too much flowing water, with boat damages daily.  My business slowed and fishing became very very difficult.   It is getting somewhat better now, but not back to the point of being a "no brainer".   I would take, with a grain of salt, advise how great it is, or easy, lets just say sometimes it can be just a boat ride, but then again, if you like a challenge, and realize its called "fishing", and not "catching", you can relax with a ride  beautiful lake, where fall is upon us, eagles arriving, and cooler water improving fishing conditions to the point of actually get big fish, and several of them.   I have been fortunate to win, at least lst and 2nd in the many BLT Striper Tournaments held on the lake, sponsored by Budlight, and The Pottsboro Chanber of  Commere.   I have fished the lake for over 20 years, and have a huge clientele who returns to me each year.  I live on the lake, and very interested in helping the economy in this area, as well as keeping my business one to be well respected.   Anyway, wish I had some pictures of big fish to post, but lately it has been few and far between, because of the many natural conditions around the lake.   But you never can tell, you might could be someone who gets that big fish, and in reports around the area, telling how great the lake can be, under normal conditions.  Anyway good fishing, and fins up!  JD

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 20)

GOOD. Water normal stain; 57 degrees; 1.35 feet below pool. Striped bass fishing is good using live shad on main lake ledges and flats in 30-40 feet of water. The bite has improved drastically around 10:30-11:00 A.M. each day, so stick it out if you are not seeing active fish early. Backs of coves and around the mouths of the rivers are good with swimbaits in 8-15 feet of water where the water is dirty and warmer. Catfish are slow, anchor in shallow water near the rivers where the inflow is using whole gizzard shad or cut buffalo for big fish. Smaller fish showing up on the flats in 20-30 feet of water. Crappie are fair in the creeks in 1-5 feet of water using jigs and minnows on brush sticking up or lay downs from the bank. Mo glo and black/chartreuse on a slip cork in shallow creeks. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are fair on swimbaits along the bluffs and on sandy points with stumps in 5-8 feet of water. Topwater bite will be on soon! Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Striped bass continue to be caught with Alabama rigs or sassy shad targeting structure. Somedays fish are in 5 feet and some in 40 feet of water. The water clarity is clear near the dam and muddy where rivers enter the lake. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
