Lake Texoma - CrossCreek Guide Service

December finds the close of a year, and whatever adventure you were involved in, whether it be riding on the railroad which I did for 30 years, or any number of other jobs, you found as your destinity,  its the same.    If I had known about guiding on Lake Texoma earlier, I sure could have made a career of something which I loved to do more.   I am not griping as it made me a nice living, until I could retire, and then guide, easier on the pocket book, and during the lean season, winter.   This year saw some records made, and one of the best years for big fish, I can recall in my years as a guide.   I had 5 fish one trip that weighed 86 pounds total, my best day, but many more days of close to the same, from March to mid December.  After mid December I concentrate on Striper Tournaments, and presents for the grand kids.   Besides this December as ususal its too windy and cold for this ole timer.   I rather sit in front of the fireplace, and watch out over the lake, observing the eagles migrating to the lake area, or even drive around and look at the Christmas lights, celebrating Christ birthday.   I expect my business to pick up shortly after the New Years, and you can beat I will be back to the concentration of big fish, showing my customers a great time of beautiful Texoma.   Ran out a couple of days ago, to keep the rust off, and caught more big fish, and know the fish will be ready by the time I thaw out, and hit the water again.  Whether its fishing, or just riding around the lake, if you are trying to fight boredom, come to the lake, enjoy the winter sites, consider buying a house or property, or just kick back, enjoy one of Gods most beautiful creations.   Happy Holidays.   JD Dorsey.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 27)

GOOD. Water normal stain; 57 degrees; 1.86 feet below pool. Striped bass are good using live shad and cut bait anchored in 45-65 feet of water thumping the boat and running a splasher to get the fish under the boat. Recent rains will have a lot of big female fish up river but look for them on flats and structure with swim baits in 12-25 feet of water. Crappie are good on jigs using electronics to fish brush in the little mineral arm 15-22 feet of water. Also seeing fish in the creeks 2-4 feet of water on brush. Smallmouth or largemouth bass are slow fishing docks and structure with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Look for SM on gravel beds along the bluffs in 6-12 feet of water. Catfish are slow on cut gizzard shad anchored near the rivers in 5-10 feet of water but starting to see eater size fish coming on ledges and flats in 40-55 feet of water. Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Striped bass continue to be caught with Alabama rigs or sassy shad targeting ledges and structures in 5-40 feet of water. Some sporadic schooling activity and bird action. Some fish are moving into creeks. The shad spawn should begin as the water near 68 degrees. This runs around six weeks, bringing predator fish shallow and kicks off topwater season. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors.
