While the snow may not be blowing and the lake may not be filled with ice, join the crowd headed for an Arctic Blast put on by Cedar Mills Resort on Lake Texoma on Saturday, February 18th. Registration starts at 10 am Saturday morning, so bring your jogging shoes and take off on the Polar 5K Run. Then, get the kids and grandkids lined up for the Eskimo Park and Polar Games on the shore of Lake Texoma at Cedar Mills from 2 - 5 pm.
By about 3 pm Saturday afternoon you'll want to watch or maybe participate when plenty of brave souls, sponsored by friends and local businesses, take a plunge into the lake. Yes, they really jump in and get soaking wet. This is the 6th Annual Polar Bear Plunge to raise money for western Grayson County's Special Olympics and also the various volunteer fire departments in the area. The money raised goes for a great cause, and the entertainment is priceless. See your friends and neighbors shivering for charity!
In the evening, there's a catered dinner followed by more great entertainment. Class Act, a local and well-loved Texoma band, will provide music for the dance again this year, held in a big tent set up beside Pelican's Landing Restaurant at Cedar Mills. Both the dinner and the dance take place in the tent. But the Snowball Social Hour is 5 - 6pm in the Lakeside Room at Pelican's Landing, serving drinks and appetizers.
Get tickets and get more information at http://texomapolarplunge.org/ But hurry, because the lovely tables set up in the big tent for dining and dancing are filling up fast!
